Real Experience Using Hipcamp: Camping, RVs & Cabins
Application Scenarios
As an outdoor enthusiast, I often find myself planning weekend getaways to recharge amidst nature. Recently, while scouting for a unique camping experience for my family, I turned to Hipcamp. The app quickly became my go-to tool for discovering hidden gems across various states. One sunny Friday afternoon, after a hectic week, I decided to book a last-minute escape. With a few taps on my phone, I found a charming cabin by a serene lake, perfect for a family retreat. The ability to browse through various options based on real-time availability and personal preferences made my planning effortless.
User Experience
The user interface of the Hipcamp app is clean and intuitive, making navigation a breeze. Upon launching the app, I was greeted with a visually appealing layout showcasing various campgrounds. The search feature is highly responsive; I could easily filter results based on location, type of accommodation, and amenities. The booking workflow is seamless, and I appreciated the instant notifications confirming my reservation. Every interaction felt smooth, and the app's performance never lagged, even when I was browsing through numerous listings. Overall, my experience was overwhelmingly positive, as I felt empowered and excited to explore new outdoor adventures.
Pricing
Hipcamp operates on a straightforward pricing model that varies based on the campsite and accommodation type. I found that many unique camping spots were surprisingly affordable, with options ranging from $20 for basic tent sites to a few hundred dollars for luxurious cabins. The transparent pricing structure allowed me to budget effectively for my trips. Additionally, there are often no hidden fees, which was a relief compared to other booking platforms.
Updates & Support
Hipcamp regularly updates its app to enhance user experience and introduce new features. I noticed improvements in the search functionality and the addition of new listings after each update. In terms of customer support, I had a minor issue with a booking, and the Hipcamp team was responsive and helpful. The support section within the app is easy to navigate, ensuring that users can find solutions to their problems efficiently.
Security & Privacy Review
When it comes to security and privacy, Hipcamp takes user concerns seriously. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring a degree of trustworthiness. During the registration process, I was required to provide minimal personal information, which included my email and phone number for booking confirmations. I appreciated the app's focus on limiting personal data requirements while still maintaining effective communication.
Moreover, Hipcamp seems to respect user privacy by not bombarding me with ads or unnecessary tracking behavior. I noticed that the app does not track my location unless I explicitly allow it for search purposes, which is reassuring for someone who values privacy. Overall, I feel secure using Hipcamp, knowing that my personal information is handled with care and that I can enjoy my camping adventures worry-free.

3 things that I cannot stand in the app. 1. Some properties are impossible to click on. for some reason, I cannot select certain properties from the map (only from the list) 2. I cannot open pictures from individual camp site pages (I have to open full-sized pictures from the property page, but cannot open them from individual site thumbnails). 3. Hitting the operating system "back" button exits the app, rather than moving back 1 screen within the app.

Update* I wasn't pleased because of service charges, due to a change in reservations the app charged double 'service fees' even though I had cleared the changes with the Host. I had made last minute camping reservations, and needed a change last min. which was against their cancellation policy. Because it was slow season, the Host gave the okay, but the app still charged as though a new reservation was made. I worked with customer service to try and figure out a refund, which took a while.

I really like the app, it opens up many more camping opportunities in a safe and reliable way. On a recent trip we tried to extend a day using the modify reservation section and there was no way to do it. We ended up having to make a new reservation. Also, The RV length is contradictory. The description of our equipment page lists trailer length, but on the edit page it asks for trailer and tow vehicle length combined. I think this leads to some sites getting filtered out.

The app is slow and laggy. It gets confused easily, and I often have to close and reopen and re-enter all the info. It will show me the name of one but the pics and info of another and then just freeze. Often, it takes hours to get through a search. Sometimes I give up and get a hotel cause I can't deal with it. I really want this to work. Get a better app designer. This review, much like your app, won't load either.

I love everything about Hipcamp except that you can not "share" from the app. You have to log on through the website to be able to send sites to friends. We have found some great places to stay and love all the filter abilities as well as instant booking for those impulsive planning moments! I also appreciate that the fees are not nearly as ridiculous as some other sites and hope they stay that way!!
