4.4 Features & Highlights
OfferUp: Buy. Sell. Simple. stands out in the crowded marketplace app scene due to its user-friendly interface and robust features. Here are some core highlights that make it a go-to choice for many users:
Real Experience Using OfferUp: Buy. Sell. Simple.
Application Scenarios
My journey with OfferUp began when I decided to declutter my home. I had several items I no longer needed, including an old guitar and some electronics. After downloading the app, I was impressed by how easy it was to list my items. I snapped a few pictures, wrote brief descriptions, and set my prices. Within hours, I received inquiries! The app's local focus allowed me to connect with buyers in my neighborhood who appreciated the chance to score some great deals without the hassle of shipping.
In another scenario, I was searching for a used office desk for my home workspace. Using OfferUp, I filtered my search to include only desks within a 10-mile radius. I quickly found a beautiful, solid wood desk at a great price. The seller was just a few blocks away, and we coordinated a time for me to check it out. This local buying experience made finding what I needed quick and pleasant.
User Experience
The user interface of OfferUp is intuitive and visually appealing. Upon opening the app, I was greeted by a clean layout showcasing featured listings. Navigating through categories was seamless, and the search function was responsive. I appreciated the workflow for messaging sellers—everything felt streamlined and efficient. The app performed well on my device, with minimal load times and no crashes. Overall, my experience was positive; the ease of listing items and browsing is something I genuinely enjoyed, which kept me coming back for more!
Pricing
OfferUp is free to download and use, which makes it accessible for everyone. While listing items is free, the app does charge a small fee for certain premium features, such as promoting your listings for better visibility. In my case, I opted not to use these features initially, but I found the organic reach of my posts to be effective enough without spending extra. The pricing model is fair and straightforward, catering to both buyers and sellers.
Updates & Support
OfferUp regularly updates its app to improve user experience and address any issues. I noticed enhancements in the app's performance and new features being rolled out, which showed the developers' commitment to keeping the platform fresh and user-friendly. When I encountered a minor issue with a listing, the customer support team was quick to respond and provided helpful guidance. Their responsiveness gave me confidence in the app's reliability.
Security & Privacy Review
As an American user, I take security and privacy seriously, especially when dealing with online transactions. OfferUp is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility to the app. The registration process requires minimal personal data, typically just an email address and a phone number for verification. This approach strikes a good balance between usability and privacy.
In terms of ads and tracking, OfferUp does display advertisements based on user behavior, but they are not overly intrusive. The app allows users to manage their privacy settings, enabling me to control how much information I share. Overall, I feel secure using OfferUp to buy and sell items, knowing that my personal data is handled with care and that I have the option to communicate within the app without revealing my private information.

They delisted my item without notice. I posted an item, had 10 photos taken that day, listed specs, model number, and all available info. I didn't get an email or message in the app about any sort of rules violation, just lost my listing when I went back to check on it. My post was full of detailed info and there was nothing about it less than credible. Also pet peeve, but you need the app to list an item, it wouldn't let me from the website. Just not a great experience overall.

It's a good app to sell new and used items, but recently I have been getting people messaging me and not reading the description of my items and then want it cheaper or asks questions about the item that is already on the description. My items are way below pricing than any retailer. I'm beginning to think that the people in my state are total morons. Then the community acts like they want to buy your item then doesn't want to buy the item. I had to delete the app. It was not loading at all.

As if OfferUp doesn't make enough money off of sales, they force non-skippable video ads on you while you browse for stuff to buy. I just force close the app and go to eBay when that happens - it's insane. I can't imagine a company taking a cut from every sale through the app would need to sell out to low-quality mobile advertisers yet here they are, doing just that.

it works, but there's so much spam it's not worth it. I keep getting put in group chats by people asking about random items, I'm flooded with notifications about new items for sale that I don't care about, and you can't even see prices of items unless you click on them. all of the random unsolicited group chats and ads show up as if they're messages, which is even more frustrating.

1st, a few too many ads. why both the fill the screen invasive ads and the random scrolling ads? 2nd, why hide phone numbers? if they put it in the description just leave it 3rd, way too many notifications that arnt messages. make the extra notifications optional 4th, not a fan of the subscriptions. they seem pay to win in an environment where that doesn't really work, but that's whatever, its optional at least. otherwise, the people using the app are pretty cool and have some good deals to find
