Features & Highlights
Real Experience Using Coursera: Learn career skills
Application Scenarios
As a professional constantly seeking to upgrade my skills, I use Coursera in various scenarios. For instance, I often find myself exploring new subjects during my lunch breaks, diving into modules on project management or user experience design. Additionally, on weekends, I dedicate a couple of hours to complete assignments and engage in community discussions. This flexible approach allows me to balance my work commitments while continuously improving my skillset. Recently, I used the app to take a Python programming course, which I had been meaning to learn for my current job in tech. The ability to pause and resume lessons at any time made it incredibly convenient.
User Experience
The user interface of Coursera is designed with simplicity in mind. Navigating through the app is a breeze; courses are neatly categorized, and the search functionality works efficiently. I appreciate how the video lectures load quickly, even on slower internet connections, ensuring a smooth learning experience. Each course features a clear layout with sections for lectures, readings, quizzes, and peer discussions, making it easy to track my progress. Overall, I feel empowered by the app, as it provides an engaging learning environment that is both intuitive and visually appealing.
Pricing
Coursera offers a range of pricing options, from free courses to specializations that can cost between $39 to $79 per month. I initially started with several free courses to explore my interests and later subscribed to a specialization that provided more in-depth content and hands-on projects. The investment has been worth it, as the knowledge gained has translated into real-world applications and career advancements. However, I do appreciate that there are financial aid options available for those in need.
Updates & Support
The support system available for Coursera users is commendable. I have found the FAQ section to be comprehensive, addressing most of my concerns. Recently, I encountered a technical issue while trying to access a course, and I reached out to their customer support. They responded promptly and resolved the issue quickly, which was reassuring. Additionally, the app regularly updates its courses and content, ensuring that learners always have access to the latest information and trends in their fields.
Security & Privacy Review
When considering security and privacy, Coursera takes significant measures to protect user data. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that users can download it from reputable sources. During registration, I was required to provide basic personal information such as my name and email address, which is standard for most educational platforms. I appreciate that Coursera has a clear privacy policy detailing how my data is used and protected.
Moreover, there are no intrusive ads that disrupt my learning experience, which is a common concern among users today. Coursera does track user behavior to enhance the learning experience and personalize content. However, they have assured users that this tracking is done in compliance with privacy regulations, and I feel comfortable using the app knowing that my information is handled responsibly.

Some courses can be sloppy, sprinkled with grammatical errors, and missing essential video material. The latest course Im taking (London Business School Fundamentals of Analysis) is missing ALL video content. The previous course I took (Bookkeeping Basics by Intuit Academy) marked two correct answers incorrect on the final exam. In general I do feel I am learning, but the general upkeep of the courses needs improvement. please make it more friendly to cell phone users.

I installed this app after seeing an ad but was unable to view any of the course material due to unexpected circumstances at work. I was charged after my 7-Day trial period and then I canceled within the refund window. I never accessed the course but after sending 10 emails back and forth with their AI assistant, I finally got a generic email from a human saying they would not give me a refund. Not sure how the course is but their company is a scam.

Coursera used to be such a great website and app. But as of a few months ago they got rid of virtually all free content. Before, you could learn a course for free but needed to pay to get a certificate. Now you can only learn the first week for free. If you need the certificate or can justify nearly $60 per month just to learn, then it may be with it. The courses are great quality and I learned a lot. It's a shame they got rid of free learning

Following my course was made smooth sailing thanks to this app. Only problems that I had was that the Android version doesn't sync immediately if I were to continue the course on another device. It can get frustrating if you don't remember the last video you watched. Another is that the app doesn't keep track of how long you watched a video, only if you completed it or not. I can watch 14 minutes of a 20 minute video, quit, and then come back to have the timer start back at zero. I did love the video quality, though.

This app is great. I get to continue from the website to my phone. I don't know what others are saying about quizzes having just 1 question. I experienced that once and thought I should update the app which fixed it. One downside would be that it doesn't sync when going into the course. I usually have to exit and go back into the course or app for it to actually sync. Also, it would be great if it didn't automatically mark an exercise/reading as complete when you didn't actually complete it.
