Real Experience Using This Old House
Application Scenarios
My journey with the This Old House app began when I decided to renovate my kitchen, a task that felt daunting at first. I opened the app and was immediately struck by the wealth of information available. From selecting the right materials to understanding the latest trends in kitchen design, the app became my go-to resource. I used it daily, often while standing in the aisle of my local home improvement store, comparing products based on the reviews and tips I had pulled from the app.
Another scenario occurred during my spring cleaning spree when I needed to organize my garage. I turned to the app for storage solutions and found a project guide that not only helped me declutter but also inspired me to build custom shelving. The step-by-step tutorial made it easy to follow along, and I ended up with a garage that not only looked great but also functioned much better.
User Experience
The user interface of the This Old House app is intuitive and visually appealing. Navigating through the various sections felt seamless, and I appreciated how the content was categorized by project type, making it easy to find exactly what I needed. The search functionality worked well, allowing me to quickly locate specific guides or videos. Performance-wise, the app was responsive, with videos loading quickly and without lag, which is crucial when I’m in the middle of a project and need immediate assistance.
Overall, using the app has been a delight. It feels like having a knowledgeable friend by my side, ready to offer guidance and support no matter the task at hand. The community aspect adds an extra layer of enjoyment, as I can share my progress and receive encouragement from others who are just as passionate about home improvement.
Pricing
This Old House offers a free version of the app, which includes a substantial amount of content. However, for those looking to access premium features—like exclusive videos and in-depth articles—there is a subscription option available. The pricing is reasonable considering the wealth of information provided, and I found that the investment quickly paid off with the quality of the guidance I received for my projects.
Updates & Support
In terms of updates, This Old House consistently rolls out new content and improvements, keeping the app fresh and relevant. I’ve noticed that they frequently add new project guides, which is fantastic for someone like me who loves experimenting with different home improvement ideas. Customer support is responsive as well; when I had a question about a technical issue, I received a prompt reply from their support team, which further enhanced my overall experience with the app.
Security & Privacy Review
As an American user, security and privacy are always on my mind when using apps. This Old House is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which reassures me regarding its legitimacy and security standards. The app requires some personal data for registration, such as an email address, but I appreciate that they are transparent about how this information is used. There are no intrusive ads, and I haven’t noticed any aggressive tracking behaviors, which is a significant plus in my book. Overall, I feel comfortable using the app, knowing that my information is handled with care.

this app has suddenly stopped casting. it will connect to cast but then just stalls with a neverending spinning arrow icon. It was working fairly well with some annoying glitches like the episode descriptions don't match the episodes and when you open it it always starts in a different episode from the one you were watching when you left.. i Guess if you don't care about casting, descriptions or re-starting from where you left off then it's fine. otherwise it's not a very good app. 2 stars.

I don't really care if I can cast to my TV, I only watch on my phone or tablet. What I don't like is that at least 4 or 5 times throughout a season (I usually watch 2 episodes a day) I have to re-log in. Recently it doesn't give me the option to re-log in and only comes up with the free trial option and automatic subscription which I already have. Great content tho.

Not Chromecast or screen mirroring capable. Cast my screen and volume goes out, video freezes, etc. Doesn't even keep track of what videos have been watched, so every time you log in you have to remember and go thru the whole app to find where you left off. Tragic, because I love this show and paid for the year of use.

I love This Old House, but there are two major deal breakers with this app. First, no Chromecast makes me wonder what the point of the app is in the first place (though I could get around this by casting my screen). Second, the ads have gotten so intrusive that it's unwatchable. I don't mind an ad here or there, but playing 15 minutes of unskipable and repetitive ads for a 22 minute program makes this an easy uninstall for me.

Don't expect this app to be able to cast to Chromecast. For the last 3 years they have been "trying to include a Chromecast button on the app." Seriously, they asked me if I tried AirPlay to fix the issue. "Oddly enough, no... I didn't try APPLE AirPlay from the Android app..." Clueless. Seriously not what I would expect from This Old House.
